The cluster invited a gardening expert from the County extension service to come and help plan the garden, offering plant suggestions. The cluster created their design, put it out for estimates from local nurseries, did fund raising, made a presentation to Home and School for additional funds and helped lay out the garden on planting day. The fifth grade added custom painted rocks to add color and interest to the garden. Shortly after the garden was planted, it was visited by monarchs and swallowtails. A year later, another bake sale was held by remaining members of the original cluster to fund annuals and plant labels. Several of the plants needed to be replaced (under warranty!), but most of the original plantings have become firmly established and butterflies continue to visit. | |
