The teams have created new stories: characters, setting and plot. Now to build the setting! You can't film a story without a set! The teams had to take into account the size of their characters even when they are using the same building materials - one team will be using stikbots so scale has to be bigger. Another team will be using lego mini-figs so the scale is smaller.

Clusters for Fall 2019:
Animal Poster Peeps (Gr 2-3) Monster Squad (Gr 3-5) Auto Bots (Gr 2-3) Lights! Camera! Action! (Gr 3-5) Game Crafters (Gr 4-5) "X" Marks the Spot: A Pirate Adventure (Gr 2-4) Sharing of cluster works will be November 21st. The Story Crafters explored two other forms of visual storytelling in addition to their collage story Bee, Me and T - three very different visual approaches. After sharing a dozen of different "fish" stories from the library collection, they created their own air-dried clay fish which could be used as a storytelling puppet. Each fish was painted and glazed to seal it.
The other visual elements they create were animals and objects formed from geotiles. The brightly colored geometric shapes became a flower, a fish, a bee, a butterfly, an apple and more. The objects will be reproduced on cards for the PreK. Each card will also have the alpha of the first letter of the object name and the object name. The cards can be used for storytelling, for STEM construction (re-creating the object with geotiles) or for shape and color recognition. Auto Bots cluster learned to code the ozobot to move in different ways by using different color conventions. Without "directions" the bot follows lines and makes arbitrary decisions at intersections. The members had to create pathways that contained certain elements: turns, tricks, changing colors. The next level of coding is "ozoblockly" which creates electronic instructions in connected "blocks" that are then downloaded to the ozobot to perform without a physical path. The cluster began with the sharing of a great STEM book How to Code a Sandcastle which presents the elements of coding in story form. Each member of the Amazing Animal Detectives researched a favorite animal and investigated like any good detective, all the things that are important - where the animal lives, what it eats, who it lives with and how it survives.
Monument Masters (Gr 4-5) - define and build a monument out of recycled materials
Story Crafters (Gr 2-3) - explore literacy through words and illustrations Globetrotters (Gr 2-3) - travel the world Amazing Animal Detectives (Gr 2-3) - explore an animal and its habitat Delicious Donut Design! (Gr 4-5) - build and market a donut shop Reader’s Theater: Fables (Gr 4-5) - write a script and create a backdrop for performance The Auto Bots (Gr 2-3) - code ozobots |
